Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Derda Özer is an ophthalmologist working in advanced eye surgery and ocular disease management. Drawing on the experience of more than 30,000 ophthalmic operations, his areas of expertise are ocular oncology, surgical and medical retina, cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and uveitis.
Born in Bolu in 1986, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer graduated from Istanbul Medical Faculty in 2010 and completed his ophthalmology residency at the same institution between 2011 and 2016. During his training, he broadened his clinical experience as an observer at the Wills Eye Hospital Ocular Oncology Unit in Philadelphia, an academic referral centre for ocular oncology. His early career also included participation in numerous international phase studies, contributing to advancements in ophthalmic research.
After fulfilling his mandatory service at Hakkari State Hospital (2016–2018), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer joined Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Medical Faculty as a Lecturer, where he taught and trained ophthalmology residents. He earned the FICO (Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology) title in 2020 after passing the Advanced ICO examinations.
In 2021, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer became an active member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, Uvea-Behçet Unit. In 2024, he earned ECFMG (US Medical License) certification.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer continues to combine clinical practice with academic work in ophthalmology.
