What it is

What is a Hollywood Smile?

A Hollywood Smile is a comprehensive cosmetic dental makeover combining 8 to 10 upper anterior porcelain or zirconia veneers, 6 to 8 lower veneers or crowns, in-office professional whitening and gum contouring where indicated — designed and previewed by digital smile design (DSD) before any tooth preparation begins. Treatment timeline is typically 5 to 7 days in Istanbul.

At Eyeglow Health in Istanbul, your Hollywood Smile is delivered at our partner accredited dental clinic by a board-certified dental specialist using DSD planning in Exocad / Smile Designer Pro, in-house CAD/CAM milling of post-2018 generation E.max press or monolithic translucent zirconia, and hand-characterisation by an experienced dental ceramist. The Turkish Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authority Certificate is held by both Eyeglow and the partner dental clinic. Our cosmetic protocols follow American Dental Association (ADA) clinical guidance and FDI World Dental Federation aesthetic standards.

The mock-up try-in approval phase (Day 2 in our protocol) is mandatory and non-negotiable — it is the formal reversibility checkpoint where you see and approve the planned smile before any irreversible enamel preparation begins. That decision belongs to you, in front of a mirror, with the dental specialist beside you — not to a marketing brochure or a price-list page.

How it works

From first consultation to final smile portrait

  1. 01

    Online consultation + smile assessment

You share standardised intra-oral photographs (front smile, lateral profile, upper arch, lower arch) plus a head-and-shoulders portrait. The dental specialist at our partner accredited dental clinic reviews your facial proportions, dental midline, smile line and gingival display, then writes a unit-by-unit treatment plan (number of veneers, lower arch strategy, whether gum contouring is required) before any quote is issued.

  2. 02

    Day 1 — clinical examination + 3D digital workup

On arrival in Istanbul: full clinical oral examination, periodontal screening, panoramic X-ray, intraoral scanner impressions (TRIOS / Medit i700 / 3Shape) and high-resolution clinical photography (retracted, smile, profile). Digital smile design in Exocad DSD App or Smile Designer Pro generates a 2D mockup of your future smile within hours. Shade selection using digital shade matching (VITA Easyshade) plus traditional Vita Bleached shade guide.

  3. 03

    Day 2 — mockup try-in + final design approval

A direct mock-up of the planned smile is made in temporary composite, applied non-invasively onto your existing teeth so you can see and approve the final shape, length and shade before any preparation begins. Adjustments to incisal edge length, midline, lateral incisor proportion or canine prominence are made chairside until you and the dental specialist are aligned. This step is essential — it makes the Hollywood Smile reversible up to this point.

  4. 04

Day 3 — gum contouring (if needed) + minimally invasive preparation

Where indicated by your DSD analysis, soft-tissue diode laser gum contouring re-establishes the ideal gingival zenith and corrects gummy smile (excessive gingival display over 3 mm). Under local anaesthetic the dental specialist then performs minimally invasive preparation for veneers (0.3 to 0.7 mm enamel reduction — preserving most of your natural enamel) or conservative preparation for crowns (1.0 to 1.5 mm for ZrO2 / E.max). Digital impressions go directly to the in-house CAD/CAM lab. Temporary veneers placed the same day.

  5. 05

    Day 4 to 5 — CAD/CAM fabrication + characterisation

Each veneer or crown is digitally designed in Exocad / 3Shape Dental System, pressed (E.max) or milled (ZrO2) from manufacturer blocks, and individually characterised by the dental ceramist with surface staining, incisal translucency and surface texture to mimic natural enamel optics. Multilayer translucent blocks for the smile zone (canine-to-canine) contain a built-in cervical-to-incisal translucency gradient. The lower arch veneers or crowns are matched to the upper for full smile harmony.

  6. 06

Day 6 to 7 — try-in, in-office whitening (lower teeth where untreated), final cementation

Each unit is tried in for fit, contact points, occlusion and shade match before any cement is applied. If lower teeth are left untreated they are first whitened in-office to match the new veneer shade. Final adhesive cementation under rubber dam isolation uses light-cure or dual-cure resin cement (Variolink Esthetic, Panavia V5, RelyX Veneer). Final occlusal equilibration, polishing and a smile portrait conclude the treatment. Discharge with written aftercare instructions and a night-guard if bruxism is present.

Cosmetic options

Hollywood Smile vs Veneers vs Crowns vs Whitening

The right cosmetic dental option depends on how much of your smile needs transformation, the structural condition of your teeth, and the irreversibility you are comfortable with. Here is how the four main approaches differ:

Candidacy

Are you a candidate for a Hollywood Smile?

You may be a good candidate if

  • You want a comprehensive smile transformation that addresses tooth shape, length, alignment and colour — not just whitening.
  • You have stained, worn, chipped or mildly malaligned anterior teeth that cannot be corrected by whitening alone.
  • Your gingival health is stable, you have no active periodontal disease and sufficient remaining enamel for veneer bonding.
  • You understand that the Hollywood Smile is a multi-day commitment (5 to 7 days in Istanbul) with planned irreversible tooth preparation after the mock-up approval phase.
  • You have realistic expectations about a natural-looking but markedly improved smile — and you are willing to engage with the digital smile design (DSD) preview process to align expectations before any preparation begins.

Another option may be smarter if

  • You want only whiter teeth without changing shape — professional in-office whitening is the conservative first option.
  • You expect a "fixed for life" result — even zirconia full-mouth has a 15 to 20 year lifespan; E.max veneers 10 to 15 years; both require eventual replacement.
  • You have active periodontal disease, untreated bruxism or unfavourable occlusion — these must be stabilised before any aesthetic restoration.
  • You have unrealistic expectations about uniform brilliant-white shade — natural smiles have intrinsic value variation and we are honest about this in your consultation.
  • You are unable to commit to a full DSD mock-up approval before tooth preparation — the mock-up is the reversibility checkpoint and is non-negotiable in our protocol.

Disclaimer. Information on this page is consistent with American Dental Association (ADA) clinical guidance, FDI World Dental Federation aesthetic standards and Turkish Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authority Certificate requirements. The choice between Hollywood Smile, partial veneers, full-coverage crowns or whitening alone is a case-by-case clinical and aesthetic decision based on smile display, structural condition of teeth, and patient irreversibility comfort — not a marketing-driven default.

Risks & outcomes

Realistic outcomes — the risks that actually matter

Every cosmetic restorative treatment has measurable risks. We list them here in the same plain language our dental specialist uses in your consultation:

Irreversible tooth reduction (post-mock-up)

Veneer preparation removes 0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel; crown preparation removes 1.0 to 1.5 mm of enamel and dentine. Once the mock-up has been approved and preparation begins, the natural tooth surface cannot be restored — the long-term commitment is to veneer or crown maintenance and eventual replacement. We make the mock-up approval phase the formal reversibility checkpoint; before that point you can withdraw without irreversible work.

Post-operative thermal sensitivity

Mild thermal sensitivity for 2 to 8 weeks after veneer or crown cementation is normal and typically self-resolves with desensitising toothpaste. Persistent sensitivity beyond 12 weeks may indicate pulpal inflammation requiring endodontic treatment. Pre-existing deep fillings or recent restorations carry a 5 to 15 percent risk of post-cementation pulpal complications, particularly when preparing close to the dental nerve.

Veneer debond or fracture

Adhesive failure of veneers (debond) occurs in approximately 2 to 5 percent of cases over 10 years, most often related to bruxism (clenching/grinding) or trauma. E.max porcelain veneers may chip or fracture at 0.5 to 2 percent per year, particularly without a protective night-guard in bruxism patients. We provide a custom night-guard recommendation for any patient with bruxism signs (worn cuspal tips, jaw muscle tenderness).

Unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome

Even with full digital smile design, occasional shade or shape mismatch can occur because dental aesthetics are interpreted differently by patient and clinician. The mock-up phase is the formal opportunity to align expectations. We do NOT use stock "perfect white" templates — every Hollywood Smile is designed for your facial proportions, gender, age and skin tone. Cases where post-treatment satisfaction is below 8/10 are reviewed for chairside refinement at no additional charge during your stay.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Hollywood Smile

What is a Hollywood Smile?

A Hollywood Smile is a comprehensive cosmetic dental makeover that combines multiple treatment modalities to redesign the entire visible smile zone. A typical Hollywood Smile includes 8 to 10 upper anterior porcelain or zirconia veneers (canine-to-canine or first premolar-to-first premolar), 6 to 8 lower veneers or crowns, in-office professional whitening for any untreated teeth, and where indicated soft-tissue diode laser gum contouring to correct gingival display. Digital smile design (DSD) is used to preview the final smile before any tooth preparation begins. The result is a uniform, brighter, well-proportioned smile customised to your facial features — not a "one-size cookie-cutter" Hollywood template. Treatment timeline is typically 5 to 7 days in Istanbul.

How long does a Hollywood Smile last?

Lifespan depends on the materials used: E.max porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years with proper care; monolithic zirconia crowns last 15 to 20 years; the in-office whitening component lasts 1 to 3 years (touch-ups recommended). The two main longevity factors are (1) home care — twice-daily soft brushing, daily flossing around all veneer/crown margins; (2) occlusal protection — a custom night-guard for any patient who clenches or grinds (bruxism) extends veneer life significantly. Six-monthly professional cleaning with your local dentist is essential. With good care, a well-executed Hollywood Smile remains aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound for 15+ years, after which selective replacement of individual units extends the result further.

How is a Hollywood Smile priced in Turkey?

Hollywood Smile pricing in Turkey depends on the total number of units (typically 8 to 20 veneers or crowns), the material selected (E.max porcelain or monolithic zirconia), whether gum contouring is required, and the complexity of the shade-matching objective. Because every case involves a different unit count and material combination, Eyeglow Health provides a personalised written quote after reviewing your intra-oral photographs and smile assessment — before any payment is requested. The quote is fully itemised (consultation, DSD, scans, mock-up, preparation, fabrication, cementation, hotel, transfers, complication insurance, 12-month follow-up) so you can evaluate it transparently. Request a written, all-inclusive quote via the form on this page.

How is a Hollywood Smile done?

The Eyeglow Hollywood Smile protocol is a 5 to 7 day sequence: Day 1 — clinical examination, intra-oral photography, digital scans and digital smile design; Day 2 — mock-up try-in directly on your teeth so you can see and approve the planned smile before any preparation; Day 3 — gum contouring (if needed) and minimally invasive preparation of teeth under local anaesthetic, with temporary veneers placed the same day; Day 4 to 5 — in-house CAD/CAM fabrication of E.max or zirconia units, hand-characterised by the dental ceramist while you have free time; Day 6 — try-in, in-office whitening of any untreated lower teeth, final adhesive cementation under rubber dam; Day 7 — review, occlusal adjustment, polishing, smile portrait and discharge with written aftercare instructions.

How many veneers do I need for a Hollywood Smile?

The standard upper-arch Hollywood Smile uses 8 to 10 veneers (canine to canine = 6 units, plus the two first premolars = 8 units total; some patients show the second premolar when smiling and require 10 units). The lower arch is treated based on individual smile display: many patients show only 6 lower anterior teeth when smiling broadly and need 6 to 8 lower veneers; others have a less prominent lower smile and may not need lower restorations beyond whitening. The exact number is determined during your digital smile design analysis — we count the units visible during your natural full smile, not the units visible during forced retraction. Honest unit counting prevents over-treatment and unnecessary cost.

Is the Hollywood Smile painful?

The treatment itself is performed under local anaesthetic and is not painful. Mild jaw fatigue from prolonged mouth opening is common during longer preparation appointments. Post-operatively you may experience mild thermal sensitivity for 2 to 8 weeks (managed with desensitising toothpaste) and tenderness of the gum tissue around the prepared teeth for 5 to 10 days. The mock-up try-in and try-in appointments involve no drilling and are typically comfortable. Patients with severe dental anxiety can request additional oral sedation (diazepam) at the consultation stage; full intravenous sedation can also be arranged for an additional fee if required.

Will my Hollywood Smile look natural or "too white"?

It depends on the shade you and the dental specialist agree during the DSD mock-up phase. We are honest about this: the "too white" Hollywood Smile criticised on social media is a deliberate aesthetic choice driven by patient preference for shade Bleached BL1 to BL3 — not an unavoidable consequence of the treatment. Many Eyeglow patients select natural shades (A1, A2 or B1) that give a brighter but natural look matched to their skin tone, gender and age. The DSD 2D mockup and chairside mock-up try-in let you see exactly how white you will look before any irreversible preparation. We never push a shade you do not want.

Hollywood Smile or porcelain veneers — which is right for me?

A "porcelain veneer treatment" usually refers to a partial cosmetic plan of 4 to 8 upper anterior veneers (treating only the visible problem teeth); a "Hollywood Smile" is a comprehensive 16 to 20 unit makeover treating the full visible smile zone (upper + lower) plus whitening and gum contouring as needed. The right choice depends on how much of your smile actually shows when you laugh, your aesthetic ambition, and your budget. If only 4 to 6 anterior teeth bother you and your lower teeth are aesthetically acceptable, partial veneers are usually the smarter choice. If you want a full uniform smile transformation and your lower teeth show prominently, the Hollywood Smile package is more appropriate. The dental specialist will assess your smile display objectively in the consultation.

What are the realistic risks of a Hollywood Smile?

The four main risks are: (1) irreversible tooth reduction after the mock-up approval phase — once preparation begins, the natural tooth surface cannot be restored; (2) post-operative thermal sensitivity for 2 to 8 weeks, occasionally requiring endodontic treatment if persistent beyond 12 weeks; (3) veneer debond or fracture (2 to 5 percent over 10 years), more common in bruxism patients without a protective night-guard; (4) unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome due to expectation mismatch — managed by mandatory DSD mock-up approval before preparation begins. All four risks are managed by careful case selection, full DSD planning and structured aftercare — not eliminated entirely. The dental specialist discusses each risk in your individual consultation before any irreversible work begins.

Can my Hollywood Smile be removed or undone later?

Up to and including the mock-up try-in approval phase the treatment is fully reversible (no enamel removed). After the formal preparation begins (Day 3 in our protocol) the natural tooth surface has been altered and the result is no longer reversible — you commit to permanent veneer or crown maintenance and eventual replacement every 10 to 20 years. If you wish to "undo" a Hollywood Smile years later, the only options are replacement with new veneers or crowns; there is no clinical procedure that regrows lost enamel. This is why our mock-up approval gate is mandatory and non-negotiable: it is the formal reversibility checkpoint where you decide to commit or withdraw.

What aftercare does my Hollywood Smile need?

Daily home care: twice-daily soft brushing with non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste, daily flossing or interdental cleaning around all veneer and crown margins (this is the highest decay-risk area), avoid using your teeth as tools (opening bottles, biting fingernails). Diet: avoid biting hard items (ice, hard nuts, popcorn kernels, fingernails) for the lifetime of the veneers — they can chip. Limit strongly staining food and drinks in the first 48 hours after cementation; long-term staining of ceramic veneers is minimal because the surface is non-porous. Bruxism patients receive a custom night-guard recommendation. Six-monthly professional cleaning with your local dentist is essential for long-term veneer and crown survival. We send written and video aftercare instructions in your language before discharge.
